Läget mellan SoundCloud och rättighetshavarna har spetsats till rejält sedan den brittiska motsvarigheten till Stim – PRS for Music – stämt den delvis svenskägda tjänsten.
Relationen mellan SoundCloud och olika rättighetshavare tycktes vara på väg att ljusna – på sistone har bl a Warner och Merlin skrivit avtal – när nyheten nu kommer att PRS sätter hårt mot hårt och stämmer den Berlinbaserade musiktjänsten.
I ett memo till sina medlemmar skriver PRS:
“After careful consideration, and following five years of unsuccessful negotiations, we now find ourselves in a situation where we have no alternative but to commence legal proceedings against the online music service SoundCloud. Launched in 2008, the service now has more than 175 million unique listeners per month. Unfortunately, the organisation continues to deny it needs a PRS For Music licence for its existing service available in the UK and Europe, meaning it is not remunerating our members when their music is streamed by the SoundCloud platform”.
Viktigt att notera är att PRS inte tar upp den nya affärsmodell som SoundCloud har på väg. Det finns ännu inga tecken på att PRS beslut kommer att följas av samarbetspartner Stim.
