Under torsdagkvällen utannonserades årets vinnare av Hyundai Nordic Music Prize under festivalen och konferensen By:larm i Oslo. 10 kvinnor och två män från de nordiska länderna hade nominerats för album utgivna under 2018. Vinnaren Robyn presenterades av artisten Ane Brun.
Robyn vinner priset för albumet Honey och motiveringen lyder:
”Undeniably a huge pop record, but also a brilliant step forward for Robyn: thoughtful and mature, and a dazzling creative rebirth. Given her international status, Robyn could have returned to pop being happy operate within the algorithms of streaming culture. Instead she has made a complete album, completely at ease with exposing and exploring how she has lived through some of life’s heavier hits, while still getting the asses onto the dancefloor. It pays beautiful homage to disco and house, while knowing when to be stark and sonically adventurous”,
I den internationella juryn satt Jeanette Lee (Rough Trade), Jude Rogers (The Guardian), Eric Deines (Jagjaguwar) och Stuart Maconie (BBC).
Två nominerade artister fick också hedersomnämnanden:
Astrid Sonne – Human Lines (Escho)
”Amazing adventures in abstract sound from a classically trained musician who brings that creativity from the conservatoire to the world of electronica. An album which revels both in negative space and the information chaos of the modern age in all its beauty, noise and randomness.”
Bisse – Tanmaurk (Showbisse Inc.)
”A hugely flamboyant orchestral pop tour de force that is also a sardonic love letter to his native Denmark, somewhere between Knausgård and Jacques Brel, Serge Gainsbourg and Scott Walker.”
De totalt tolv nominerade nordiska albumen togs fram av en nordisk jury bestående av Audun Vinger (NO), Arnar Eggert Thoroddsen (IS), Ilkka Mattila (FI), Annah Björk (SE) och Anna Ullman (DK).
Hyundai Nordic Music Prize hyllar musikskapare från alla de fem nordiska länderna och har delats ut årligen edan 2010.
